John is proud to have been one of the first contributors to Agriculture Online correspondents.

John has farmed all his life in one form or another, from using toy tractors in a dirt patch beside the back porch to helping parents in their fields. While working on his BS in Ed. at Eastern Illinois University, he also worked on factory assembly lines and hauled can milk to the Prairie Farms Creamery in Olney, Illinois. While working on his twelve year tenure in teaching at Mt. Zion, Illinois and later Robinson, Illinois, he worked with his Father-in-Law on his farm, gradually buying into the business. After the birth of his daughter in 1976 and his Father-in-Law's retirement around 1977, he began farming full time. Having completed a partial land sale of the core part of the operation and a machinery sale January 17, 2003, John is not as active in day-to-day operations of a farm. Material participation still exists, as the remaining farmland is share-rented to a great younger farmer. John intends to continue being involved, with the intent of trying hard to keep out of the way of the younger generations!
