Bob Streit, an agronomist and ag consultant from Webster City, Iowa, inspects soybeans. This was the first and only field confirmed with a low incidence of rust a week ago in Colonia, Uruguay. After inspection with a hand lens, high levels of rust infestation were found after just seven days of ideal weather conditions. Interestingly enough, fields surrounding this highly infected field were rust free up to this point.
Silvina Stewart, a Uruguayan pathologist, expects rust to be discovered in other parts of the country within the next week as a result of heavy rain and high wind activity over the past three days. Several second-planted soybeans are still in the vegetative state.
