U.S. soybean planting is nearing completion, while the corn crop conditions drop slightly, according to the USDA's weekly Crop Progress report.
For corn, USDA rated the crop 68% good/excellent, down slightly from last week's 70% rating. Also, 24% of the corn crop was rated fair and 8% very poor-poor.
As of Sunday, 97% of the soybean crop was planted, compared to 96% a year ago. The soybean crop is 92% emerged, slightly ahead of 91% from a year ago. USDA rated 67% of the soybean crop in good/excellent condition, the same as a week ago. Also, 26% of the crop is rated fair and 7% very poor-poor.
For winter wheat, 46% of the crop is rated very poor-poor, 25% fair, and 29% good/excellent. USDA reported 38% of the crop has been harvested, compared to 17% a year ago. The spring wheat crop is rated 25% fair, 15% very poor-poor, and 60% good/excellent.
The cotton crop is rated 40% good/excellent, 34% fair, and 26% very poor-poor.
