Weekly crop progress mostly unchanged for corn and soybeans

The corn crop rating remains unchanged from a week ago, soybeans dropped slightly, according to the USDA's weekly Crop Progress report released on Monday.

For corn, 68% of the crop was rated good/excellent, 23% fair, and 9% very poor-poor. With 10% of the crop silking, that is equal to a year ago and a five-year average.

For soybeans, 64% good/excellent, 27% fair, and 9% very poor-poor. Also, 18% of the soybeans are blooming, down from 19% a year ago.

USDA, in its report, rated the spring wheat as 52% good/excellent, 28% fair, and 20% very poor-poor. As of Sunday, 65% of the crop was harvested, above 56% from a year ago.

For cotton, 52% was rated good/excellent, 28% fair, and 28% very poor-poor. Also, 63% of the crop is in the squaring stage, above 54% from a year ago.
