Soybean and corn conditions in Corn Belt states are at or slightly ahead of last week, according to the latest U.S. Department of Agriculture-National Agricultural Statistics Service (USDA-NASS) crop progress report released Monday.

Overall corn conditions ranged from 20% excellent in Illinois, Indiana and 21% in Iowa, to two and five percent excellent in North Dakota and South Dakota, respectively. Of the 18 corn-producing states, 16% of all corn is rated as excellent, with 41% good and 25% fair. Eighteen percent is rated poor or very poor.

Soybean conditions were best in Kentucky, where 35% of the crop is in excellent condition, according to NASS. The crop is 20% excellent in Iowa, while just below that -- 16% and 19% excellent -- in Indiana and Illinois, respectively. Overall, 27% of the crop in the 18 soybean-growing states is in fair condition, with 58% good or excellent versus 15% in very poor or poor condition.

Nationwide, pasture and rangeland conditions were improved slightly from the previous week, with 27% in fair condition, 22% in good or excellent shape and 51% very poor or poor.
