USDA ups corn crop condition, soybeans remain the same

While the U.S. crop progress rating jumps slightly this week, the soybean conditions remain the same, according to the USDA weekly report released on Tuesday.

For corn, 59% is rated good/excellent, up from 57% a week ago. Also, 25% of the corn crop is rated fair, and 16% very poor-poor. As of Sunday, the crop is 81% dented, above 77% a year ago. USDA indicated 20% of the corn is in the mature stage, slightly ahead of 19% from a year ago.

USDA rated the soybean crop 59% good/excellent, 27% fair, and 14% very poor-poor. Also, 13% of the crop is dropping leaves, equal to a year ago.

For wheat, the spring harvest is 97% complete, ahead of 88% a year ago.

USDA, in its weekly report, indicated 42% of the cotton bolls are opening, sharply higher than 29% a year ago. Also, 39% of the cotton crop is rated as good/excellent, 28% fair, and 33% very poor-poor.
