John Ehnle, a soybean farmer and seed dealer in Bradford, Illinois, said his Roundup Ready 2 Yield production soybeans yielded 59.3 bushels per acre. This compares to a 53.3 bushel average yield for Roundup Ready soybeans on his farm since the year 2000. "We were very satisfied," he said. "Based on all the excitement we have been hearing about this technology, this is what we were hoping for."

R. D. Waddington, who farms in Assumption, Illinois, experienced average yields in the 65 bushel to 70 bushel range for his Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans, compared to a historical average of 55 to 60 bushels with first-generation Roundup Ready beans. "They turned out really well, and I was pleased," he said. "I'm planning on planting more Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans next season. It looks like they will really pay off in dollars per acre."

Brian Renbarger
Greentown, Indiana
6 bushel/acre yield increase over Roundup Ready soybeans

Even with late planting and a tough growing year, Brian Renbarger, of Greentown, Indiana, recorded an average yield of 65 bushels with his Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans, compared with 58-61 bushels for his first generation Roundup Ready beans. "We had some really good beans," he said. "I was impressed."

Renbarger said he also noticed more beans per pod with his Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans. "As we were in the field before harvesting, I would reach down and it just seemed that I pulled a lot more pods with four beans," he said.

The Indiana farmer said he was impressed with the performance of his Roundup Ready 2 Yield beans considering they were planted late and had to hold up under extremely dry August weather. "That's what really surprised me," he said. "I feel like we did get a better yield, and I would like to try some again next year."

Craig Benjegerdes
Manly, Iowa
4 bushel/acre yield increase over Roundup Ready soybeans

Craig Benjegerdes, a farmer-dealer who farms in Manly, Iowa, near the Minnesota border, said the average yield for his Roundup Ready 2 Yield fields was 56 bushels per acre, about 4 bushels better than his Roundup Ready soybeans.

"We got a tremendous amount of rain this spring, so my yields varied depending on how each field drained, but in several places in the field, I was seeing over 70 bushels per acre with Roundup Ready 2 Yield," he said. Benjegerdes noted that he found a number of 4-bean pods with the new technology, adding: "I plan on growing as many Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans as I can next year."

Olivia, Minnesota
7 bushel/acre yield increase over Roundup Ready soybeans

Dave Wertish, a soybean farmer and seed dealer in Olivia, Minnesota, said his Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans yielded about 50 bushels per acre, compared with 43-44 bushels per acre for his Roundup Ready beans.

"The plant health looked good and I was well-pleased with the yield," he said. "I think this is something everyone will be planting in the next two or three years."

Wertish noted that he also observed more beans per pod with Roundup Ready 2 Yield. "The majority of pods were filled with three and four beans instead of two and three beans like my other soybean plants," he said.

Steve Mumma
New Carlisle, Ohio
10 bushel/acre yield increase over Roundup Ready soybeans

Steve Mumma of New Carlisle, Ohio, said he is just "tickled" with the yield results from his roughly 500 acres of Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans this year. "Believe it or not, I observed a 10-15 bushel difference with the Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans over my Roundup Ready soybeans," said Mumma. "After seeing the yield results, I'm going to plant as many of them as I can for next year -- I was that impressed with them."

Despite a very wet spring and then a dry mid-season, Mumma said his Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans looked great throughout the growing season. "The Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans had an exceptional emergence and they are a much better bean, yield-wise," he explained. "I encourage anybody that is thinking about Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans to try some."
