Checkoff money from farmers recently helped install soy biodiesel pumps at the Navy Exchange fuel-station on the Pentagon Reservation in Arlington, Virginia. The pumps give the US Department of Defense easy access to soy biodiesel. That's making a pretty big statement about the dependability of soy biodiesel, says the Iowa Soybean Association.

The fuel station, known as Quarters K, allows the public to purchase biodiesel fuel and ethanol as well. Passers-by, residents, the Pentagon's 23,000 employees, and politicians in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area can fuel up with soy biodiesel or an 85% ethanol blend.

"It's a good place for exposure of these renewable fuels to the politicians and the general public," says Ed Ulch, a director for the National Biodiesel Board and director for the Iowa Soybean Promotion Board.

"There are a lot of government vehicles in various programs that are running on biodiesel. This effort will not only increase usage, but also broaden the opportunity for acceptance of renewable fuels."
