Holding its own

Used farm equipment is holding its value.

You've heard me say this time and again over the last 12 to 15 months. The auction sale prices continue to pour in with lots more good examples of good quality older equipment selling for "high" prices at auction.

This past week I got a cool e-mail from Aaron in Illinois. Seems Aaron is also seeing this trend of used equipment holding its value. He mentioned how he bought an old IHC 715 combine five years ago. Paid $2,500 for it.

I'll let Aaron tell the rest of the tale:

"I bought a 1978 IH 715D Hydro combine 5 years ago when I started farming. It was in excellent shape and was the same when sold here in January. I put around 300 hours on it and when sold had 2900 hours. I paid $2500 for it and sold it for $2500! I also had an 883 corn head that sold for $2000 which was $200 more than what I paid for it. I was very happy on my return to say the least."

Aaron mentioned that he upgraded into a Case-IH 1660 combine after selling his 715. Check out the following page to see what 1660's have been selling for at auction the last year or so.
