The National Barn Alliance (NBA) started as an informal network of Cooperative Extension educators, historic preservationists and concerned citizens interested in barn preservation programming. Initially, the land grant universities of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wiscoinsin were involved. The organization has since grown to include other states, State Historic Preservation Offices, statewide barn preservation organizations and national organizations such as the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
