Agriculture.com Staff 12/07/2010 @ 10:13am

Herbicide-resistant weeds are popping up more and more in fields around the country. But, that doesn't mean all hope is lost for avoiding those weeds in the future, says Corn High Yield Team Expert Panel member and Iowa State University (ISU) agronomist and weed science specialist Mike Owen. They can be avoided through close attention to your fields and implementing "cultural tactics."

- Mike Owen, Iowa State University agronomist & weed science specialist

Finding "the next silver bullet for weed management" is the long-term goal, but in the meantime, there are ways that resistance can be avoided. And, they don't all come in a bag or jug. First, Owen advises paying close attention to ways to develop good weed management stewardship. That starts with understanding the "weed community and which weeds need the most attention," he says.
