Darrington Seward and his family operate Seward & Son Planting Co. and Seward & Harris Planting Co., headquartered in Louise, Mississippi, growing cotton, corn, rice, and soybeans in Yazoo, Humphreys, Sharkey, and Holmes counties.
Seward is a graduate of the University of Mississippi, with degrees in History and English. Seward is the 4th generation in his family to farm and help his father manage production agriculture on approximately 17,000 acres in the south Mississippi Delta.
Seward manages his farm's precision agriculture program. He supports 12 John Deere GS2600s, 1 Raven Viper Pro, 1 Ag-Chem Falcon, and 1 Sat-Loc controller, and also writes VR prescriptions in-house across his entire operation for all dry and liquid fertilizer, in addition to plant growth regulators and defoliant in their cotton. He maintains AB lines for multiple applications for several hundred fields and manages all of the applied and yield data from each of these controllers.
Seward serves as a deputy commissioner on the Yazoo County Soil and Water Conservation District, as a member of the flood control committee of the Delta Council, and on the board of directors of Manchester Academy in Yazoo City, Mississippi. He and his wife, Mary Katherine, have 4 sons and 1 daughter that "keep us busy morning, noon, and night," he says.
