Convention & country star ignite FFA
Welcome to National FFA Convention week! Convention is returning to Louisville, Kentucky this year after spending 6 years in Indianapolis, Indiana – the same city where the National FFA Headquarters is located. The annual sea of national blue and corn gold is the largest youth gathering in the world, hosting over 55,000 FFA members, FFA advisors, and FFA supporters.
The theme of this year’s convention is Ignite. Many of us can think of ways that this powerful word ties into FFA and agriculture. Ignite your fire. Ignite your passion. Ignite your hopes and dreams.
FFA members from all 50 United States, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands work tirelessly on Career Development Events and their Supervised Agricultural Experiences to develop leadership abilities, career skills, and lifelong friendships.
Some former FFA members have ignited their passions so far as to become well-known members of our society.
- Former U.S. President, Jimmy Carter was an FFA member in Plains, Georgia.
- For all you Green Bay Packers fans out there, Jordy Nelson served as an FFA member in Riley County, Kansas.
- Rulon Gardner (who I personally met at National FFA Convention in 2002) was an FFA member turned Gold-Medal Olympic wrestler in 2000.
- Country stars Willie Nelson, Taylor Swift, and Tim McGraw also have FFA in their backgrounds.
One more country star is collaborating with Ram Truck brand and the National FFA Organization to celebrate the importance of farmers to America. Remember the much-loved “God Made a Farmer” commercial launched during the 2013 Super Bowl? Who could forget? That video kicked off the “Year of the Farmer” initiative, and former FFA member, Easton Corbin, is a key part in the multi-tiered program continuing celebration.
Easton Corbin, country music recording artist best known for his singles “A Little More Country Than That” and “Roll With It,” is traveling across the U.S. performing exclusive concerts for FFA chapters to recognize the dedicated and hard-working farmers of our country. The program also includes a sweepstakes to win trips the American Country Music Awards and a web video series documenting Corbin’s visits to FFA chapters called "All Over the Road to the ACM Awards."
