Growing produce for local families in need.

Jayce Patterson 02/16/2012 @ 11:00pm

York, NE – United Farmers Cooperative in partnership with Winfield Solutions and Land O’Lakes Cooperative presented a donation of $1200 to the local Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapter in York, NE.  The donation will be used to create an Answer Plot Community Garden.

The purpose of the Community Garden and the involvement of local FFA York chapter, as well as, local and regional cooperatives is to provide healthy and locally grown produce for local families in need.  The Community Garden will help raise awareness to hunger needs, not thousands of miles away, but in our own backyard and to engage Future Farmers in their role of helping to feed the world.

The FFA chapter of York will have access to 1 acre of land inside of United Farmers Cooperative Answer plot.  Types of crops that will be planted will be; Corn, Lettuce, Broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes and more as space allows.  All produce grown will be donated to local food banks and pantries.
