Help grow a new farmer

One of the many attributes I admire most about producers is their willingness to share knowledge and experience. Successful Farming magazine and Agriculture Online(tm) thrive on ideas from farmers and ranchers.

I believe you'll agree that when you share ideas useful to someone else in your business, it gives you a certain amount of professional satisfaction, too. After all, part of the value in what you know is that you learned it through hard knocks and painful experience!

As a brand new Christmas tree grower 20 years ago, I learned the most useful tips and valuable knowledge from membership in the Iowa Christmas Tree Growers Association (ICTGA), particularly at summer field days.

Like a sponge, I soaked up every word from veteran growers as they shared their hard-earned wisdom in demonstrations, workshops, and personal chats. And you know what, 20 years later I still behave the same way. Now, however, I'm exchanging ideas and filtering new ideas based on my own experience.

The idea exchanging/learning that happens once a year at the ICTGA's summer field day occurs 24 hours a day on Successful Farming magazine's Web site, Agriculture Online. In particular, I invite you to visit a special feature on the site that put a high value on farmer input.
