Emilie Magnus knew within a few months of college that an indoor job wasn’t for her. After attending Kansas State University, the Arkansas City, Kansas, native knew that working outdoors and on the family farm was what she wanted. “It kind of hit me all at once that I needed to go home and farm,” the 21-year-old says. One day, her uncle needed help running the machinery. She volunteered and became a hired helper whenever Birdzell needed one.
