August 9-15

Agriculture.com Staff 07/07/2010 @ 9:09am

This week has been so busy and full of ups and downs! I was at the store working as much as possible and Shawn was there when he could be too.

Our product is not all here yet as planned. The Animal Heath salesman brought my stuff on Saturday after a small problem with his warehouse help. The feed will be picked up Monday. They didn't have everything that I wanted for Thursday or Friday pick-up, so I have to wait until Monday afternoon to pick it up.

The store front is all cleaned, painted and ready to go. I am so glad that I advertised opening on Wednesday so I will still be ready for customers. My sign and frame are done and I love them, they look great!

Shawn took Thursday and Friday off to help me and even had time to get a cross fence built and the cows moved into that pasture. He also kept busy with helping me and irrigating. I sure appreciate being able to have him help me when I need him to.

Justin wasn't able to come and visit us. His parents couldn't get the time off to bring him up and we didn't have time to go get him either. I hope he can come soon.

It has been hot here all week so the animals are needing extra attention. We are watering daily with everyone drinking more. The dogs are keeping cool with the irrigation ditch. That's the first place that they go when we turn them out. Tess is the worst, every time I can't find her, she is in the ditch. I once had a rancher tell me that he prefered the more white Border Collies to the more black ones. He says that they go to water less often when working cows or sheep. That's how ours are, Hannah is more white and in the ditch half as much as Tess who is more black.

We ended our week getting housework done and all the little things that get put off all week. Then we went to the Johnstons' in the evening for a visit with our usual group. Shawn headed to bed early so he can get up at 1:00 a.m. to make an early fuel run and get home in time to go with me to get our first order of feed for the store. Cenex Harvest States is about 2 and a half hours away from us.

This next week is going to be a busy one as usual. I am looking forward to being open finally!
