Pennsylvania farmers can buy and sell farms online, free

Agriculture.com Staff 04/18/2006 @ 8:34am

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture is helping farmers buy and sell farms using new technology offered on the Center for Farm Transitions Web site.

"Helping farmers make smooth transitions is the purpose of the new Center for Farm Transitions," said Secretary of Agriculture Dennis Wolff. "Whether farmers are buying or selling a farm, or making any kind of change with their business, we want to provide resources to help them."

Farm Map is one of the tools the Center for Farm Transitions uses to help farmers interested in buying, selling, renting or leasing a farm. The free, online resource developed by Penn State University and funded by the Department of Agriculture can be found at http://www.iplantofarm.com/, then click on "Farm Map."

"We can preserve our farmland, but without preserving our farmers, Pennsylvania is at risk for losing the ability to remain an agricultural leader," Wolff said.
