Workshops offer air quality options for swine producers

Agriculture.com Staff 02/20/2006 @ 10:44am

Swine producers interested in evaluating alternatives to control odors, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide and dust transmissions from their operations can learn more at two Iowa State University workshops in March.

"Air Quality Solutions for Swine Producers: Examining the Options" will be offered twice -- March 7 at the ISU Armstrong Research Farm Learning Center near Lewis, and March 8 at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds in Webster City. The workshops are sponsored by the Iowa Pork Producers Association and three Iowa State University entities -- the Iowa Pork Industry Center, ISU Extension and the College of Agriculture.

Besides producers, the general public, policymakers and governmental regulators interested in learning more about the science of air quality are encouraged to attend.

Sample problems will be worked on during the workshops. Producers interested in using their own farms in conjunction with the sample problems are encouraged to bring siting and ventilation specifications and diet formulations for comparison purposes.

For more information or to register, call 515/294-0557 or e-mail weiser@iastate.edu.
