Michelin introduces new sprayer tire

A new tire for sprayers is now on the market. Michelin introduced their SprayBib radial tire, which has a load carrying capacity of 14,330 pounds and can go up to 40 mph. The tire is in a new line of the ultra flex technologies, which the company developed in 2004 and brought to North American in 2006.

Michael Vandel, agriculture tire segment manager with Michelin, says most tires have a load range of 12,125 pounds and a speed range of 25 mph. “The problem with these machines is that they are traveling down the road at 30 mph,” he explains. “The SprayBib’s VF technology allows the tire to carry the pounds at 40 mph but is the same pressure for 15 mph when spraying.”

The recommended psi for the tire is 64, about a 20% reduction over the standards in the market today. “Pressure is important when it comes to spraying,” Vandel says. “The more pressure you have the more compaction you have.”

Another key feature of the tire is the longevity. Vandel states that in average conditions in the Midwest, producers are getting one to two seasons from their tires. The SprayBib are expected to last three to five years.
