02/28/2013 @ 1:59pm

As much as $4,120 is available to irrigators buying a propane-fueled engine. The Propane Farm Incentive Program offers participating farmers a $400 incentive per liter of engine displacement when they purchase a propane-fueled irrigation engine.

That incentive is topped off at engines up to 10.3 liters. As such, a total of $4,120 is available toward the purchase of one engine, The incentive program is being offered by Propane Education & Research Council (PERC), which announced the effort during the 2013 Commodity Classic currently being held in Florida.

Propane-fueled irrigation engines cost up to 14% less to purchase and operate than diesel irrigation engines, PERC reports. Plus propane reduces deposits on engine components and decreases overall maintenance costs.

Farmers can participate in the incentive program through equipment dealers nationwide or by submitting an application available at http://agpropane.com/incentive/.
