2013 Super Duty Fords
Future Super Duty Fords will continue to employ the powertrain that made this vehicle line (F-250, F-350, and F-450) a sales leader in its class of pickups. The line's diesel (the preferred power plant of over 75% of Successful Farming magazine readers) continues to be the vaunted 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbocharged engine.
The turbocharger on that engine is unique in this class of truck. The booster is located between the cylinder heads and the top of the block, while the exhaust manifold is positioned inboard and adjacent to the turbocharger. This closer proximity to the pistons provides faster air displacement, more power, and negligible turbo lag. The turbocharger uses a single-shaft design, dual-sided compressor wheel, and articulating turbine vanes that vary the flow of air based on the accelerator.
Ford continues to offer only one transmission in this class of truck with its TorqShift heavy-duty, six-speed automatic. The manual-shift standard transmission was dropped several years ago due to lack of interest in this class of vehicle. The drivetrain offers a distinctive electronic locking rear differential. This device locks the axle shaft to apply torque equally to each rear wheel for extra traction.
Here's What's New
A whole lot of luxury items are showcased on the line's new Platinum-edition models. For example, Platinum trucks provide a heated steering wheel with wood grain trim throughout.
Other features include:
• 10-way adjustable power leather seats
• A navigation system
• Power-adjustable pedals
• Rear-view camera
• Remote starting
• Power-telescoping mirrors
And then there is the SYNC system. The standard Ford SYNC system, introduced several years ago, offers voice-controlled connectivity to compatible mobile phones and media players via Bluetooth or USB for making calls and playing music using voice control.
The MyFord Touch addition to the Super Duties includes a new 8-inch, high-resolution touch screen display that provides easy access to phone, climate control, entertainment, and navigation features along with a dramatically expanded voice-control vocabulary.
