Super press

Until the Dolezal family decided to think outside the box, one hydraulic press was, more or less, just like the other when it came to basic design.

Randy Dolezal and his son, Nick, however, wanted more – more room, more flexibility, and more oomph when it came to a press.

The Danube, Minnesota, farm team envisioned a press with two hydraulic rams (not necessarily unique) and a design that allowed those two rams to be easily positioned anywhere along the press's table (that's unique).

"Not only do the two cylinders accommodate different jobs, but also we can use the secondary cylinder to hold our work down while pressing with the other ram," Nick says. "This feature is a lot handier, and I feel safer working around the press."

The Dolezal press was 20 years in the making in Randy's mind. "And then it took about 10 years to collect all the parts that I needed for it," he says. "Plus, I spent time on and off for the next five years building it."

That time spent was well worth the investment. It resulted in an impressive one-of-a-kind hydraulic press. So it's not surprising that the Dolezals' hydraulic press was selected the Best Shop Feature in the Top Shops Contest.

With that honor the Dolezals also received a portable toolbox from Montezuma Manufacturing (www.montezumamfg.com) as well as a Lincoln Electric MIG 140C welder (www.lincolnelectric.com).

Until the Dolezal family decided to think outside the box, one hydraulic press was, more or less, just like the other when it came to basic design.

Features don't end with the movable dual cylinder arrangement on the Dolezels' press. The tool's frame is extra wide, with the table measuring 8 feet in length. Plus, the press was built to allow for 50 inches of working width between the legs.
