Are more farmers looking to store grain?
Appears that way. Ripples in the used equipment market tell the tale. Demand has been growing for good quality grain bins and grain vacs, as evidenced by rising auction sale prices. Click on the link below to download a PDF of what various makes & models of grain vacs have been selling for on recent sales.
Take for example the 2005 model Brandt 5000EX grain vac sold on a farm auction in northeast North Dakota back on April 21, 2006. It was listed in "excellent" condition and had seen less than 2,000 bushel use. It came with a cleanup kit and all the accessories.
It sold for $12,000.
How high is that? Well, a quick Internet search found me a pair of 2006 model Brandt 5000EX grain vacs for sale. One was in Minnesota for $13,9000; the other was in South Dakota for $13,500. These two 2006 models retail asking price is only slightly above the $12,000 the 2005 model went for at auction in North Dakota.
Watch for demand on grain vacs in the used equipment market to remain strong for the next few months.
