Machinery Pete: 4WD tractor values

Before "caller ID" phone service, there was voice ID.

I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. Certain folks call and as soon as you pick up the phone and hear the voice at the other end, you know who it is. Even if its someone you don't talk to very often.

Like my friend Al.

About five years back, I remember taking a call from Al, a southern Minnesota farmer and user of our web site service. Al was looking for a nice Versatile 875 four-wheel drive tractor. He was hoping to buy one at an auction. We talked on the phone every few weeks.

I remember telling Al back then, a really nice Versatile 875 tractor should sell in the $17,000-$18,500 range. Now every time I see a Versatile 875 tractor sold at auction, I think of Al. Saw one sold yesterday on a big dealer auction in central South Dakota. It went for $15,500, about the going rate today on 875s. Check the FACTS from our "Calculator Pricing Tool" in our web site:

Note how the average auction price so far in 2008 on Versatile 875s has gone up 17.6% over last year. This falls in the range I've been telling folks for months now, used equipment values on all types of farm equipment have gone up 10% to 20% in 2008.
