Machinery Pete: Red-lover's dream auction

Agriculture.com Staff 11/25/2015 @ 10:18am

Can't believe I'm about to say this, but here goes.

Last Saturday (September 6), on a farm auction in west-central Iowa, a 2008 CaseIH 2588 combine with 0 engine hours sold for $225,000. It's not that I can't believe a combine selling for $225,000 at auction. The kicker is, that wasn't the most amazing item sold on this auction.

Not by a long shot.

How about a restored 1966 IHC 1206 tractor with 3,696 hours selling for $32,250? Or a nice 1970 IHC 1456 tractor for $26,000? More? Okay, there was the restored 1959 IHC 560 diesel tractor with 4,722 hours sold for $9,200, or the restored 1953 IHC H tractor for $16,250.

I could keep going.

What a sale this was for lovers of red equipment! I've seen a lot of auctions in my 19 years of tracking auction sale price data, but this one has to rank right up there with the best of the bunch. So odd to find an auction like this featuring both super condition late model equipment...hard to get much more late model than 0 hours on a 2008 combine, along with super condition older equipment that has been lovingly restored.

Shiny red equipment to salivate over for folks that prefer new or old stuff.

Can't believe I'm about to say this, but here goes.
