Oregon to Texas

Agriculture.com Staff 10/09/2008 @ 12:00pm

This country of ours is a big, wide, beautiful place.

I grew up on the edge of the prairie in western Minnesota. Lived in the gopher state my whole life. This week my travels find me on the western coast of Oregon, logging country. Back home we've got 10,000 lakes. Here they've got the Pacific Ocean.

Nice view.

Every day used farm equipment is sold at auctions around the country. I love to gather up the sale price information and compare it to other areas of the country.

Last Saturday on a small auction in north-central Illinois, a 2005 model Kubota M4800 mechanical front-wheel drive tractor with 450 hours and a LA1002 loader sold for $15,500. Also on this auction was a JD Gator 6x4 with 300 hours for $5,900 and a 1999 Ford F250 4x4 pickup with 206,000 miles for $6,900.

Looking in the auction locator database in my www.machinerypete.com Web site, I see a real nice farm auction this Saturday (October 11, 2008) in north-central Montana. A few pieces of equipment featured on this auction include:

2007 NH BR780 round baler

1992 JD 535 round bale

2001 NH 1475 18-foot mower/conditioner

2005 JD 3975 forage chopper

2008 Featherlite 8127 24-foot stock trailer

1990 Hillsboro 18-foot gooseneck stock trailer

1981 Melroe Bobcat 843 skid loader with 5,043 hours

1992 Mack CH613 truck

2007 NH T6030 MFWD tractor w/280 hours & 840TL loader

Now, if you're looking to bid on any of these pieces of equipment on this Montana sale, do you think it would be helpful to know what other folks have paid for similar items recently?

I sure do.

Take the pair of round balers. Check out the auction sale price data I've compiled on NH BR780s:
