Sold at auction: Anything and everything

Agriculture.com Staff 04/19/2007 @ 10:00am

Time for a little spring cleaning.

We have 75 or so different categories of equipment we track sale prices on. It's all alphabetized in our Web site: ATVS, AUGERS, BEAN BARS, BEET EQUIPMENT, BLADES, CARS, CATTLE EQUIPMENT, CHISEL PLOW. . . TRACTORS, TRAILERS, TRUCKS, UNDERCUTTERS, V RIPPERS.

But one category in the middle of our list is especially dear to my heart - "MISCELLANEOUS."

I always liked the possibilities this category presents. When auctioneers send us reports on their sales, sure, we get prices on what the tractors, the combine and the planter sold for. But just as likely we'll get sale prices on things like: tires, welders, tractor weights, engines, three-point hitches, or log splitters.

We've got to put all this sale price data somewhere, so it goes into our "MISCELLANEOUS" category.

A lot of this stuff comes into our office without a make or model, so we simply put "N/A" for both and enter it into our database. Below you'll find a link you can click on to pull up all of these items we've seen sell at auction in 2006 and so far in 2007.

Here are a few of my favorites:

$190: goat trimming cage/table, sold south-central Nebraska

$75: (15) planter box covers @ $5 apiece, sold northeast Nebraska

$350: log splitter, sold northwest Kansas

$450: 3 pt. cement mixer, sold southeast Colorado

$600: 4-ton floor jack, sold southeast Pennsylvania

$600: (3) new 14.9-24 pivot tires, sold south-central Idaho

$2,600: wood chipper, sold southeast Florida

$6,750: horse windmill weight, long tail, damaged ear, sold south-central Nebraska

$50: 2-wheel oat seeder, sold northwest Illinois

$60: corn meal grinder, sold northeast Kansas

$200: propane weed burner, 124 gallon tank, sold southeast Idaho

$400: post driver, sold east-central Missouri

$400: (2) canola rollers, one steel, sold northeast North Dakota

$700: 10'x12' loafing shed with side open, sold southwest Iowa

$7,800: log cabin, 20'x24', sold north-central Kentucky

You'll find quite a sale price range in our miscellaneous category - everything from an engine hoist that sold for $50 in east-central Illinois 2/6/07 to a 22'x40' pole barn sold for $18,050 in west-central Michigan on 3/15/07.
