Machinery Pete: 1954 Super MTA high crop sold for $51,000

Interesting contrast.

First something old. An antique tractor collector auction last Saturday, August 7th, in southeast Wisconsin by Mecum Auction. A ton of great restored and unrestored old tractors on this sale, including this gem, a 1954 Farmall Super MTA diesel high crop. According to the sale bill, only 64 high crop Super MTA's were made and less than 20 were diesels.

It sold for $51,000.

I've seen a few Super MTAs, made by Farmall in the mid 1950s, sell in the $10,000 - $12,000 range over the years, but nothing close to $51,000. Click on the link below to view all (121) auction prices I've compiled on Super MTAs over the last 14 years.

Here are a few other sale price highlights from this August 7th collector auction in southeast Wisconsin:

  • 1953 Farmall Super HV, high crop, 1 of 70 made: $26,000
  • 1950 Farmall O6 orchard tractor, original fenders: $12,000
  • 1935 JD GP, rare orchard style exhaust, manifold and unique air cleaner, expo restoration: $14,000
  • 1931 JD GP "Beaner" model, rare, made for Michigan bean farmers: $12,500
  • 1959 JD 435 2 cyl. diesel: $8,300
  • IHC 1456 "Gold Demonstrator": $24,250
  • 1961 Deutz "CCIL", sold through Canadian Cooperative Implments Ltd (CCIL), 80 HP: $7,500
  • 1966 IHC 1206, restoration by Midwest Tractor & Plow: no sale at $32,000

Here's a pic of that 1935 JD GP sold for $14,000, followed by a link to the last (52) auction sale prices I've compiled on JD GPs:

Ok, now on to something new, or newer at least. Auction sale price data from a very nice farm auction Tuesday (August 10th) in central Illinois by auctioneer Mike Maske. On this auction was a 2008 model CaseIH 2588 combine with 550 engine hours. It sold for $162,000. That's the highest sale price I've seen on a 2588 combine since June 2009. See for yourself:

A few more sale prices from Tuesday's farm auction in central Illinois:

  • 2009 CaseIH 2010 30' grain head, poly skids, 600 acres: $20,500
  • 2009 Unverferth HT-30 header trailer: $2,000
  • 2006 CaseIH MX275 MFWD tractor with 1,497 hours: $118,000
  • 1998 CaseIH 8940 MFWD tractor with 3,471 hours: $65,000
  • 2009 CaseIH 1250 16R-30 planter: $61,000
