Used 6-row equipment is hot

Good used six row planters rose in value dramatically before planting season this year, now good used six row corn heads are also seeing a rapid rise in value.

Take these (2) JD 693 corn heads sold at farm auctions this past week:

2005 JD 693 corn head sold for $29,250 (new record price) on August 11, 2012 farm auction in southeast Minnesota

2006 JD 693 corn head sold for $27,000 on August 9, 2012 farm auction in northeast Illinois

So definitely still a significant premium being paid to acquire these nicest available good used 6-row items. Everywhere I bop around the country covering auctions, or speaking, folks always bring up the same points with this good used smaller farm equipment:

They don’t make this size stuff anymore
I just can’t find a really nice used one

So when good ones do show up for sale on nice farm auctions, wow, sale price whiplash is possible. But as I always try to point out, these sales aren’t done in a vacuum. There are runner up bidders and usually two, three or four other bidders standing right there or right there online bidding with their finger on the mouse hoping to nab it.
