Deere 4455 2WD tractor for $50,250

GREG PETERSON 02/09/2012 @ 10:04am Greg Peterson writes "Machinery Pete" column for Successful Farming magazine and appears on the Machinery Show on RFD-TV, talking about trends in the used equipment market

Things I know this week:

1.    Oops. The February 2012 issue of Successful Farming magazine came out earlier this week. My “Machinery Pete” focused on the crazy period from mid November through December 2011 where I saw, so, so many new record high auction sale prices across the country on all types of used equipment. Just one problem….the data table showing all these auction prices got a bit “off” in production and the “Model Year” column and the “Specs” columns were incorrect. No worries, here is the corrected version for you to chew on:

2.    JD 4455 tractors are still “hot”. Farm auction yesterday (Feb. 7, 2012) in northeast Illinois featured a 1991 JD 4455 2WD tractor with approx. 3,600 hours in very nice condition. It sold for $50,250. I’ve written in the past how I think JD 4455’s would be, if I absolutely had to narrow it down to one, the “hottest” item on the used farm equipment market. More solid proof here with yesterday’s $50,250 sale price for a 2WD. Cute story on this 4455…one of the reports I got from the sale was that the runner-up bidder was an older gentleman, my guy at the sale guessed approx. 80 years old. Makes me smile.

3.    Used Skid Steer values are coming back. I got an auction sale price report last week from a January 13, 2012 in north-central Iowa. On this auction were a pair of very nice Case skid steers. The Case 1825B with 206 hours sold for $13,000 and the Case 1840 with 1,486 hours sold for $15,000. In our www.machinerypete.com web site’s “auction results” database we have compiled (185) auction prices on Case 1840 skid steers over the past 16 years. I’ve only seen (2) sell for more $$ and they sold 5 and 6 years ago before the general economy crashed and had only 305 and 624 hours on them when they sold. So you can see, values on good used Skid Steers are climbing here early in 2012. Click on the link below to view all (185) auction prices I’ve compiled on Case 1840’s:
