Previewing 2 auctions this week

GREG PETERSON 06/14/2012 @ 9:16am Greg Peterson writes "Machinery Pete" column for Successful Farming magazine and appears on the Machinery Show on RFD-TV, talking about trends in the used equipment market

I love how every auction is so different.

I’ve got my eye on two machinery auctions in particular coming up end of this week. One is an online dealer auction this Friday, June 15, 2012, at www.Purplewave.com featuring (11) John Deere combines from four dealer groups located in five states: Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado. Here’s a Youtube video I posted today previewing this auction, focusing on used combine values and current trends:

The other auction I’ll be watching closely is a farm retirement auction in southwest Ohio on Saturday, June 16, 2012, near Hillsboro, Ohio. What jumps off the sale bill on this auction is the 2007 JD 7520 MFWD tractor with only 451 hours. I had my auctioneer friends Rick & Brad Williams with Rick Williams Auction Co. shoot some video of owner Barney Yeager running his tractors, his 1994 Gleaner R42 combine and various other nice equipment. Cool to see and hear the equipment in action before the sale. Here’s the preview video:

One thing these two auctions have in common? They both have a JD 637 disk for sale. The online dealer auction Friday at www.Purplewave.com has a 2009 JD 637 35’ wheatland disk with 3-tine harrow, 9-inch spacing and approximately 20.75” blades. Here’s a picture of the disk.

The farm retirement auction Saturday in southwest Ohio has a smaller 15’ JD 637 disk in very good condition for sale. Ok, so now the question becomes…”Pete, what are these JD 637 disks worth?” Click on the link directly below to view auction sale prices I’ve compiled over the last few years on JD 637 disks. Pay special attention to the “Size” of the disk listed in our “Specs” column on the far right:

I will be posting video highlights from Saturday’s southwest Ohio farm auction after the sale. How high do you think that 2007 JD 7520 MFWD tractor with 451 hours will go? Stay tuned.
