U.S. crop progress rating levels off, still good

The condition of corn and soybeans leveled off from a week ago, according to the USDA weekly Crop Progress Report.

For corn, USDA reported 70% of the crop was good to excellent, down from 71% a week ago. Also, 24% was rated fair, and 6% very poor-poor. As of Sunday, the corn crop was 98% emerged, the same as a year ago.

For soybeans, 67% of the crop was good to excellent, down from 70% a week ago. Also, 94% of the crop has been planted, equal to a year ago. Plus, 84% of the crop was emerged, above 83% from a year ago.

USDA rated the winter wheat crop as 46% very poor-poor, 25% fair, and 29% good/excellent. The spring wheat was rated 67% good/excellent, 22% fair, and 11% very poor-poor.

For cotton, 42% of the crop was good to excellent, down from 43% a week ago.
