CME Trading Platform Glitch Irritates Traders

04/08/2014 @ 3:03pm

Traders can be a grouchy lot by nature, but "technical issues" disrupting trade in corn, wheat and other agricultural contracts at CME late Tuesday touched some still-raw nerves. Futures brokers grumble that the outage, which halted some electronic trading shortly before Tuesday's close, comes on the heels of CME lifting some market fees in 2014 for the first time in several years. The hiccup, which CME has yet to resolve, also arrived with a key USDA report on crop supply and demand due out Wednesday -- data that can potentially swing commodity markets.
