A dry spring isn't yet a concern for the US corn crop, Univ of Illinois agronomist Emerson Nafziger says. There's "no evidence" that moderate water stress at this point in the season hurts final yield potential, he says. Also says to disregard USDA's crop rating, which fell to 66% good-to-excellent, from 79% the prior week. In 11 of the past 12 years, the late-May rating "proved to be of no value in predicting final yield." Crop ratings, and moisture stress, carry more weight as the season progresses, he says. July CBOT corn flat at $5.59 1/2 a bushel. (ian.berry@dowjones.com; @enberry)
