Ukraine exported in the 2011-2012 marketing year 21.8 million metric tons of grain, 81% more than in the previous marketing year, the agriculture ministry said Tuesday.
The ministry said corn exports during the period totaled 13.86 million tons, 2.7 times the amount exported a year ago. Wheat exports increased by 26.4% on the year to 5.17 million tons, including 3.1 million tons of milling wheat and 2.1 million tons of feed wheat. Barley exports fell by 4.6% to 2.58 million tons.
Grain exports in June totaled 1.96 million tons, including 1.44 million tons of corn, 330,000 tons of wheat and 180,000 tons of barley.
Ukraine's grain harvest in 2011 increased by 44.3% on the year to 56.7 million tons. The country's annual domestic grain consumption is about 26.7 million tons.
