Poultry exports fly off shelves

07/20/2012 @ 6:59am

US poultry exports in May hit a new record for that month for both tonnage and sales value, says the USA Poultry and Egg Export Council. Sales in May totaled 336,387 metric tons valued at $460M, up 5% and 13% respectively from year-ago. Sales value in May was also the highest ever for any month. Year-to-date sales are up 13% by volume and 24% by value from 2011. Mexico, Hong Kong, Russia, Cuba, and Canada combined account for 43% of US broiler meat exports. Mexico and China rank first and second for turkey exports, USAPEEC says. (curt.thacker@dowjones.com)
