BEIJING, Oct 20 (Reuters) - China's commerce ministry said
it will defend Chinese companies' interests amid an EU
investigation into Chinese electric bicycles (e-bikes), and
urged the European Union to respect World Trade Organization
"The Chinese government will closely watch the development
of the case, and take necessary measures to resolutely defend
Chinese companies' legitimate interests," ministry official Wang
Hejun said in a statement.
BEIJING, Oct 20 (Reuters) - China's State Development &
Investment Corporation (SDIC) is aiming to produce 4 million to
5 million tonnes of ethanol per year in the next three to five
years, a company official said on Friday, as the Beijing-backed
firm seeks to become China's top producer of the biofuel.
China said last month it plans to roll out the use of
ethanol in gasoline nationally by 2020 to boost industrial
demand for corn and clean up the nation's choking smog.
KIEV, Oct 20 (Reuters) - Ukrainian farmers have sown 5.5
million hectares of winter wheat for the 2018 harvest, or 90
percent of the expected area of 6.15 million hectares, the
agriculture ministry said on Friday.
Ukraine plans to sow 7.2 million hectares of various winter
grains for next year's harvest, including 6.15 million hectares
of winter wheat, 926,000 hectares of winter barley and 161,000
hectares of rye, the ministry said in a statement.

TOKYO, Oct 20 (Reuters) - Japan's use of corn in animal feed
rose to 46.6 percent in August from a year earlier, preliminary
data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries
showed on Friday.

CHICAGO, Oct 19 (Reuters) - U.S. soybean futures firmed on
Thursday on supportive export demand and light bargain buying
following a three-day slide, along with renewed optimism about
demand for soy-based biodiesel fuel, analysts said.
Wheat and corn rose on light technical buying and bullish
weekly export sales data.
