Monsanto's American Seeds, Inc. acquires two regional brands

American Seeds, Inc., a subsidiary of Monsanto, announced the acquisition of two regional brands: Gold Country Seed, Inc. and Heritage Seeds.

The first addition, Gold Country Seed, Inc., is based in Hutchinson, Minnesota, and serves farmers in the northern Corn Belt. The second, Heritage Seeds, based in Rensselaer, Indiana, serves farmers in the eastern Corn Belt.

Both companies were acquired by Monsanto in cash transactions totaling $8.7 million. Specific terms of the transactions were not made available. These two companies represent approximately 0.4% of total U.S. corn and soybean seed sales.

Monsanto formed American Seeds, Inc., in 2004. The subsidiary serves as a holding company for regional seed companies that primarily market corn and soybeans.
