Strip-till expert leaves government for private industry

Agriculture.com Staff 03/02/2006 @ 11:57am

Orthman Manufacturing has announced that strip-till expert Mike Petersen is joining the company as a precision tillage agronomist, where he will continue his life's work of researching tilling methods and advancing farming methods and producer profitability.

"I was sold enough on the 1-tRIPr concept that this is where I want to be, what I want to be a part of. And, I believe I can have more impact helping farmers [here] than I could before," he says. The 1-tRIPr is a preplant tillage tool from Orthman, which combines strip-till soil management, precision nutrient placement, and seedbed preparation in a single field pass.

Petersen got his start as a soil scientist with the Soil Conservation Service in 1973, and had been a soil scientist and agronomist with the National Resources Conservation Service since 1981.
