Astounding farm auction prices
A Saturday full of surprises.
March 26, 2011, a day I'll remember and be writing about for quite a while I'm sure. Why? Many reasons. Tractors, manure spreaders, pickup trucks and more amazing auction sale prices than you can shake a stick at. Shall we begin?
The first head turner last Saturday came from a consignment auction in Fredricksburg, IA (northeast IA). The sale was by Ray Dietz Auctioneering and featured a 1992 JD 4255 2WD tractor with only 1,850 hours. Pretty attractive tractor based on just that info alone. But this tractor had more going for it. It was the last Serial No. 4255 made by Deere, plus it was in excellent condition.
It sold for $72,000.
Previous high auction sale price I'd ever seen on a JD 4255? $56,200. Aaron Anholt of Tripoli, IA was at the auction and shot video of the JD 4255 tractor selling on his cell phone and sent to me. I made into a Youtube video, posted it in our Machinery Pete Youtube channel and we had nearly 1,400 views on it the next 24 hours. Here's the clip:
Meanwhile, across the state last Saturday was a farm auction in southwest Iowa, near Emerson, IA was a sale by Bergren Real Estate and Auction. This sale featured a 1991 JD 4455 2WD tractor with 4,183 hours, listed in "like new" condition. What did it sell for?
$60,250. That is the highest auction sale price I've ever seen on a 2WD 4455.
What else caught my eye last Saturday? An old manure spreader on an auction in north-central Kansas. It was an IHC 540 spreader, sold for $4,950. That is the highest sale price I've ever seen on an IHC 540 spreader. Previous high auction sale price was $2,850, all the way back on a May 10, 1999 auction in west-central Wisconsin.
Speaking of Wisconsin, a collector auction Saturday near Walworth, in southeast Wisconsin, by Mecum Auction saw an absolutely beautiful looking restored 1966 IHC 1206 turbo diesel tractor sell for $24,000. That is the sixth IHC 1206 tractor I've seen sell for $20,000 or more at auction since 2008.
Moving right along to a farm sale in west-central Ohio by auctioneer Kirby Lyons near West Manchester, OH Saturday, a 1998 CaseIH 8930 MFWD tractor with 2,580 hours sold for $68,000, the third highest sale price I've ever seen on an 8930. For perspective, the highest auction price I've ever seen on a CaseIH 8930 came all the way back on December 21, 1998 on an auction in southeast Missouri where a 1997 model 8930 with just 5 hours sold for $74,000.
Finally let's come back home to my area of southeast Minnesota. My friends Matt and Kevin Maring of Maring Auction Company had a farm auction Saturday near Dennison, MN. (2) items really caught my attention on this auction. First was the AC 7040 tractor with 4,517 hours sold for $14,500. That's the new record high auction sale price I've ever seen on an AC 7040.
The other eye catcher? A 2000 Chevy 2500 Silverado LT ext. cab, 4x4 V8 pickup with leather and 28,500 "1 owner" miles. It sold for $19,100. Not bad for an 11-year old pickup!
Yes sir, quite a day at the auction last Saturday, March 26, 2011.
