Deere, Dow partner for better precision data utilization
The volume of data farmers are gleaning in their fields via today's precision ag tools is growing. Now, a new venture seeks to do the same with what that data can represent, value-wise, in a farmer's crop and machinery balance sheet.
John Deere and Dow AgroSciences LLC are partnering to create more value in precision ag data through site-specific applications and data delivery, with an ultimate goal of improving yields and managing costs, according to a company report.
"This agreement will help Dow AgroSciences’ customers take full advantage of the company’s products through optimal placement of technology into specific environments based on a farmer’s field conditions," according to a report from John Deere. "Bringing together production information with analysis from company experts and channel partners will enable specific product recommendations from a broad portfolio of corn hybrids. This precision enables effective management of inputs and the ability to monitor crop development, which ultimately can drive increased yields."
The agreement builds upon Deere's MyJohnDeere platform, a Web-based system allowing farmers to manage machines, software applications, and other machinery and technology elements of crop production systems. The system, a Deere report says, compiles data and information to allow farmers to "analyze yield variability, access decision support tools, and collaborate with their agronomic advisers to improve their bottom line."
Both Dow and Deere company leaders say the agreement will ultimately better prepare farmers to not just collect but also better utilize the growing precision agronomic data they're already gleaning in their fields.
"This collaboration is part of our strategy to deliver innovative Dow AgroSciences solutions tailored to each farmer’s specific environment," says Larry Robertson, global corn project leader, Dow AgroSciences.
Adds Pat Pinkston, Deere vice president for Technology and Information Solutions: "John Deere is committed to supporting the success of producers through the MyJohnDeere open platform that delivers visibility to operations and enables production optimization through nonexclusive collaboration with agronomic partners."
