Machinery Pete: Serial #1 IHC 1206 & Deere 2510 tractors

GREG PETERSON 08/19/2010 @ 9:28am Greg Peterson writes "Machinery Pete" column for Successful Farming magazine and appears on the Machinery Show on RFD-TV, talking about trends in the used equipment market

Wow, did I have a fun Monday this week.

I was down in Klemme, Iowa, in the rich farmland of Hancock County just southwest of Mason City. I was following up on an email I got last December out of the blue from Luverne Schmidt, a faithful “Machinery Pete” reader. Luverne mentioned he had a pair of tractors he thought I may be interested in seeing. Luverne owns, along with his sons Lonnie and Jamie, the very 1st production serial # IHC 1206 tractor.

The Schmidts also own the very 1st serial # JD 2510 tractor.

Now you see why I was so anxious to make the trip to Klemme to take a peek at Luverne Schmidt’s prize tractors. What a fun day it was. I got to meet Luverne and his wife Maryanne, along with their two sons and their wives who farm with them. These two first production number serial no. tractors are real beauties.

I shot video Monday and posted a new YouTube video on Tuesday night featuring these tractors and the people and stories behind them. Take a look:

The timing was ironic as I had just last week finished a “Machinery Pete” column for Ageless Iron Newsletter Editor Dave Mowitz (host of “Machinery Show” on RFD-TV). My column highlighted auction sale prices on IHC 1206 tractors and talked about how I’m finding 1206s to be one of the “hottest” new collector tractors out there.

Don’t believe me?

Check out the facts for yourself. Click on the link below to view the auction sale price data I’ve compiled on IHC 1206 tractors and also JD 2510 tractors over the last 14+ years:
