Storm destroys crops in Northern Iowa

Agriculture.com Staff 08/11/2009 @ 1:52pm

The hail storm that went through Northern Iowa on Sunday caused severe damage throughout the state. Iowa State Extension offices say the damage is from Ida Grove to Grundy Center, a stretch of about 160 miles. Driving through Eldora yesterday, I saw some of the worst damage. There are no pods left on the beans and the corn looked like it had just been combined.

At 6:30 Monday evening, police cars and ambulances were still blocking off a street for those who needed first aid. Several people in town were attending to downed trees and raking branches and leaves.
