Big USDA numbers coming up

Jeff Caldwell 10/07/2011 @ 3:15pm Multimedia Editor for Agriculture.com and Successful Farming magazine.

On Wednesday, USDA will release crop production and supply/demand reports. It's one of the biggest "report days" of the year, with a lot of eyes on both this year's crop size and the amount of grain on hand in the U.S. What will the market ramifications be? See what our market analysts are saying and get an inside look at how USDA compiles its crop data.

- Ray Grabanski: Harvest pressure?
- Roy Smith: Don't be impatient!

- Bryan Doherty: The bull argument for corn

Though USDA's October Crop Production report is typically only considered a starting point or trigger for a lot of market activity, it's also the culmination of a lot of work around corn and soybean country.

Fortune telling? 10/09/2011 @ 5:07pm What a joke! Can't believe people get paid to go out and wheigh buckets of corn. I like the ones where they predict our income before a crop is even cut. Wonder how many USDA employes have e-trade accounts. Does anybody know why they issue all these reports anyway?
