Corn, soybean conditions dip slightly

Jeff Caldwell 08/01/2010 @ 11:00pm Multimedia Editor for Agriculture.com and Successful Farming magazine.

Another week of spotty heavy moisture and higher-than-normal temperatures took its toll on U.S. corn and soybeans, according to Monday's USDA-NASS Crop Progress report.

Seventy-one percent of the corn crop is in good-to-excellent condition, down 3% from the previous week, USDA said Monday. Soybeans fared slightly better; Overall, 66% of the crop is in good-to-excellent condition, down just 1% from a week ago. The development pace is just ahead of normal for this time of year, anywhere from 2% to 7% ahead of the norm for both crops.

Summary: Corn in good-to-excellent condition, USDA-NASS

Sarah Miller NE Iowa - Bumper Crop 08/03/2010 @ 11:20am My family's crops (NE IA) are looking excellent...granted it's not in the bin so we don't want to jinx the crop but without any major hail or an early freeze...storage will be an issue!
