Showers headed to the Corn Belt?

09/13/2013 @ 9:07am

The flash flood WATCH continues today for portions of central, north-central, and northeast Colorado as monsoonal moisture continues to stream northward along the front range of the Rockies up toward southeastern Wyoming and western Nebraska. Localized heavy rains in the mountains west of Boulder have caused serious flooding: 1- to 2-plus-inch rains have been reported during the last 24 hours over the eastern plains of Colorado.

Over the weekend, some of that moisture will develop farther to the northeast over eastern South Dakota by Saturday afternoon, and an arc of rain is forecast to develop eastward across southern and central Minnesota and Wisconsin by Saturday night and southeastward across portions of Iowa, northern Illinois, and Indiana by early Monday morning.

Heavier showers and thundershowers should develop from the southwest later on Tuesday through Wednesday of next week with additional 0.25- to 1-plus-inch rains for Iowa, northern Missouri, and Illinois. More rain is forecast for the following weekend as well as another frontal boundary moves eastward across the region. Temperatures will be cool the next few days with lows in the 40s tonight over a large section of the central Corn Belt and daytime highs in the 60s and 70s over the weekend.

Warmer weather is forecast for next week, though clouds and rain will keep daytime temperatures in the 70s and 80s. Growing degree days will keep accumulating although at a slower pace now. The rain could aid some of the late-planted soybeans.

Unless you got Rain 09/13/2013 @ 12:48pm Unless you got rain in the last 3-4 weeks, I am not sure how this "possible" rain storm as any bearing on plants that are already dead. Just my thoughts - corny.
