Winter's not letting go yet

03/22/2013 @ 8:19am

Winter is hanging on across the midwest. Daily highs have remained in the 20s and 30s and the lower 40s during the month of March so far.

It is possible that northeast Ia will experience the colder March since the late 1800s. Winter storm watches are posted for Saturday across Ks and Saturday night for northern Mo, southern Ia, and west central Il thru Sunday evening. A strong winter storm is forecast to develop over northeast Co and northwest Ks tonight into Saturday. Some very heavy snow is possible in the northwest corner of Ks with 10" to 12" inches possible.

The storm is forecast to move eastward Saturday and Sunday across northern Ks and northern Mo into west central Il Saturday night and/or early Sunday morning. A band of 4" to 10" of snow is forecast for this region. Further south rain showers are forecast for southeastern Ks and western and southwestern Mo and the Delta region on Saturday and eastward on Sunday. Cold air will push south into northern Tx early next week.

The NWS in Dallas, Tx is forecasting Monday morning lows across northern Tx in the range of 31 to 32 at Gainesville and Sherman, Tx. The coldest temperatures could occur Tuesday morning with a low of 29 F in Gainesville and Paris, Tx, 31 F at Sherman and Denton, and 32 F at Wichita Falls, Tx.

Colder than normal weather is forecast for a large portion of the midwest thru the end of March. More cold air from Canada is forecast to enter the northern plains next week reinforcing the cold weather pattern for the north central part of the county. Another significant storm is forecast for late March and early April for the southern plains into the Delta region.
