A moratorium on some offshore oil drilling was lifted and a biodiesel tax credit was extended in the House of Representatives energy bill passed late Tuesday.
The vote -- 236 to 189 -- was essentially along party lines and came after several attempts by key Republicans to block the Democrat-led bill's passage through several procedural votes, reports indicate. Included in the bill, according to the Oil Price Information Service, is limited offshore drilling -- almost too limited, Republicans say.
Also included is a one-year extension of a $1-per-gallon biodiesel tax credit as well as additional small-producer and biomass-based tax credits.
The Senate is expected to vote on its version of the energy bill later this week.
