Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns will speak about foreign policy at a luncheon with the non-partisan Chicago Council on Foreign Relations on Monday, May 8.
Johanns will discuss how changes in the rules of trade, shifts in domestic policy, and new developments in technology have changed the competitive nature of global agriculture. He'll also talk about the challenges facing American agriculture.
The 2006 outlook for U.S. agricultural exports is a record $64.5 billion, and although the U.S. remains competitive across many commodities, high global barriers and subsidies have impeded agricultural trade.
